JCB Power Systems have an exciting opportunity to join the Purchasing team

JCB is looking for a Strategic NPI Buyer to join the Purchasing team at our Power Systems facility in Foston, Derbyshire.  This role is an exciting opportunity to take our hydrogen motor from the prototype phase all the way through to production.

Our Engineers have developed the first hydrogen motor in our industry, with our prototype backhoe loader now fitted with this new hydrogen motor.

Overview of the role:

The role is responsible for nominating a supplier base capable of supporting our brand new Hydrogen motor product launch, working within tight project timescales.  You will aim to fulfil this requirement by employing internal Key Stakeholder Engagement and Early Supplier Engagement, alongside requiring a significant level of contract negotiation and management.  Naturally, cost, quality and risk will all be key factors.  You will negotiate and analyse to ensure we get the best deals and products.

You will be responsible for the new parts throughout the project from the early prototype stage, through to full production and product ramp up.

Responsibilities as a Strategic NPI Buyer:

  • Teamwork – Integral part of the wider team from the initial stages of development, providing guidance and support to Project/Engineering on decisions commercially.
  • Supplier Selection / Nomination – Ensuring supplier nominations are made taking into account their current performance across cost, quality, delivery and risk, alongside their ability to meet all technical and timing requirements of the project.
  • Supplier Validation – Initiating the supplier validation process for all new suppliers, including supplier visits, audits and compliance to the range of commercial agreements.
  • Cost Control – Work together with Engineering teams in order to support the target creation for new parts, along with a cost walk from prototype to mature volumes.  Ensure supplier nominations are made in line with these target costs.
  • Commercial Aspects – Ensuring that the appropriate level of commercial contracting is in place, including NDAs, Development Agreements, Warranty and Supply Agreements, including negotiation of the same.
  • Component Validation – Alongside Engineering and Quality – ensure that selected suppliers are capable of with meeting the technical concept at prototype stage, through to full drawing compliance.
  • Risk Mitigation Identify purchasing requirements and highlighting supply / project risks

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Purchasing in an Engineering and Production environment
  • Graduate calibre
  • Preferably CIPS qualified
