Job Description

Location: Birmingham B1 2HF, with some hybrid working.  Travel between sites will be a significant part of this role, along with occasional international travel.

Your future role

Are you ready to apply your significant security expertise in a cutting-edge field? Alstom is seeking a dedicated Security Manager for the UK and Ireland. Reporting directly to our Head of UK&I Security, you will hold a pivotal role in overseeing security policies, procedures, and operations across our business in the UK and Ireland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Policy and Procedure Oversight: Develop and implement robust security measures to safeguard Alstom’s people, assets, sites, projects, and sensitive information.
  • Crisis Management: Contribute to the cluster’s performance and value creation by establishing and enforcing crisis management processes.
  • Leadership and Deputisation: Act as the second-in-command for the Head of Security, stepping in to deputise as needed. Engage frequently with senior executives and directors within the company.
  • Proactive and Reactive Measures: Monitor and manage all security measures, both proactive and reactive, to protect Alstom against various malicious actions.

As a vital part of Alstom’s security operations, you will be responsible for creating a secure environment for our people, assets, and activities. The position involves significant interaction with senior personnel, reinforcing the strategic importance of this role.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Supporting with the overall strategic and tactical management of Alstom Security Policy in UK&I
  • Deputising for the UK Head of Security taking on responsibilities for the UK&I Cluster.
  • Assessing internal and external threats identifying and mitigating the security risks for the UK&I
  • Overseeing the external security contract service delivery
  • Provide advice and recommendations to the Head of Security and Alstom senior leadership team on security related issues and ensure coordination with all Security stakeholders (external and internal)
  • Performing a continuous threat assessment (malicious actions against Alstom people, sites, projects, and operations) to implement effective preventative measures
  • Implementation of security measures to ensure the safety and security of travellers coming to and from the UK in collaboration with the Chief Security Office
  • Participate in commercial procurement processes within the UK&I contributing to the cost effectiveness of the security provision within the UK&I
  • Create and maintain effective work relationships with the security network within the UK (security providers, security managers from other national or international companies
  • Ensure compliance of all required security measures within the UK in alignment with the established security policies from the Chief Security Office
  • Support with the implementation of country crisis management procedures, according to the Group Security Policy. Manage Security crisis and serious incidents within the UK
  • Organise the protection of Alstom significant events in the UK (meetings, events), implementing adequate security measures beforehand to prevent any adverse incidents
  • Adopt a true partnership approach to problem solving and risk mitigation

  • Expertise: Demonstrated experience in security management, with a proven track record in overseeing comprehensive security operations.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership abilities, capable of guiding and deputising for the Head of Security.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the capacity to effectively communicate, collaborate and influence with senior individuals and directors.
  • Crisis Management Proficiency: Skilled in developing and executing crisis management protocols.

To be considered for this role, you’ll need to have the following:-


  • Significant and relevant experience in law enforcement and/or security related qualifications i.e., CSMP / CPP or equivalent professional experience in a related field.
  • Advanced knowledge and application of PACE, RIPA and counter terrorism protocols.
  • Extensive knowledge of national and regional security environments and security issues
  • Experience in managing complex projects with tight timelines and budgetary constrains
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment within a complex matrix organisation
  • Advanced Microsoft office skills (Excel, Powerpoint, Word)
  • Background in partnership working and problem solving
  • Understanding of the difference between strategic, tactical and operational delivery
  • Once in role you will be required to achieve CTC vetting


  • Experience in crisis management exercises / formation of crisis cells
  • Strong experience of presenting to large, senior level audiences
  • Technical security experience i.e. CCTV, PIDS, BIDS, AACS
  • Experience as a leader with direct line management responsibilities within a complex organisation
  • Experience of working within a regulated and complex railway environment
  • Experience within the private sector with commercial responsibilities and management of budgets
