We have a fantastic new opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our specialist business unit, Select Plant Hire. Part of the Laing O’Rourke Group, Select is one of the UK’s largest, and most capable suppliers of equipment and services to the construction industry. With over 30 years of experience, Select has built an excellent reputation as one of the UK’s largest and most diverse suppliers of choice for equipment, accommodation, and services to the construction industry.

Responsibility for a series of projects for the Select Site Solutions business delivering temporary accommodation and hoardings.

Reporting to: Commercial Manager or Senior Commercial Manager / Project Leader

Key Deliverables and Accountabilities

  • All Senior Quantity Surveying duties including; measurement, valuation and agreement of work sections.
  • Preparation of interim applications for payment.
  • Preparation of documents for subcontract, administration and settlement of subcontractors’ accounts.
  • Pricing of variations, including reviewing and negotiation of change for both the client and supply chain.
  • Negotiation and dispute resolution with clients representatives and supply chain where necessary.
  • Assisting in the preparation of tender estimates
  • Establish the project “budget to build”, monitor and  control projects against  budget and report accordingly.
  • Financial control, reporting, preparation of monthly management accounts information.
  • Negotiation and administration of contract documents – NEC, JCT, CPA, bespoke, ensure that contract documents are properly executed in accordance with Group guidelines.
  • Advise manager of any issue/risk which has arisen or might arise and which could affect the business/project.

Key attributes 

  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to integrate and be part of a team
  • Be able to work to strict deadlines
  • Minimum 2-3years experience with main contractor or plant hire company
  • Ability to assess the sufficiency of and build up to key elemental rates from first principles.
  • Demonstrates competencies in Client and stakeholder management.

Desirable but not essential

Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS)

BSc(Hons) MRICS
