Public Affairs Manager – Levelling up and Investments Team

Fixed Term – 8 months

Location: London

Salary: Circa £65k


This is a great opportunity for a Public Affairs professional, who has a deep understanding of UK regional engagement and a sound commercial background, to join one of the UK’s leading Financial Services providers in our Group Public Affairs, Levelling Up and Investments team. We are looking for someone who can think creatively as well as identify commercial opportunities, ensuring that Aviva maximises its investment opportunities and meets key public policy needs. The position will be based in the London office and will have a particular focus on our engagement in York, Sheffield and Norwich.


A bit about the job:


You will play an active role in shaping the investment policy environment in which Aviva operates in, supporting our investment businesses to make the right decisions, particularly through our regional engagement. You will become a trusted counsel internally, facilitating the right conversations and devising the best campaigns & strategies for our brand, as well act as a trusted ambassador externally, attending regular face-to-face meetings & events, building up strong working relationships with key government contacts, both regional and central.


Aviva introduced “smart-working” in 2020 and encourages flexible working; however, due to the nature of the role, the chosen incumbent will be expected to travel regularly UK wide to attend meetings and events, Including for overnight.


Skills and experience we’re looking for:


  • Deep understanding and experience of UK regional engagement, as well as prior work experience in a Public Affairs focused role – this can be either from private or public sector
  • Strong influencing, negotiation, relationship building and networking skills i.e., you must be comfortable working with senior executives, politicians, and policymakers
  • Strong understanding of different commercial needs, where opportunities for capital deployment may lie and how to work with enabling partners.
  • Understanding of key relevant central government policy drivers (i.e., levelling up, devolution, net zero, patient capital and UK investment agendas)
  • Excellent written communication skills, matched with a collaborative working team (i.e., be a real team player!)

  • Salary Circa £65k (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
