Job Title: Product Quality Technician

Salary: Up to £17.58 depending on experience.

Caterpillar’s Building Construction Products facility at Leicester is dedicated to the assembly of small construction machines typically used on building and construction sites – Backhoe Loaders and Compact Wheel Loaders. Founded in 1952, Leicester was the first venture by Caterpillar outside the United States. The Caterpillar Building Construction Products’ fabrication facility at Stockton uses the latest technology to cut, weld and machine all the major structures for use at its assembly plant at Leicester.

A Product Quality Technician is required to work within the Quality Team at Stockton. Utilising a Co-ordinate Measuring Machine, a Portable Co-ordinate Measuring Machine, verniers micrometres etc. The work can vary from measuring the smallest to largest fabrications in the facility, auditing, problem solving, producing detailed reports, and being able to discuss those reports with our customer, engineers and our workforce.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Act as the first point of contact for all fabrication quality issues
  • Investigate fabrication problems and eliminate root causes
  • Investigate and reject defective material
  • Report quality issues at shift meetings
  • Support stock quality checks and investigations
  • Support NPI pilot builds and production launch
  • Support Cat Production System and MQ12005 activities
  • Adhere to the Company’s Health & Safety policy and safe working practices.

Skills and Experience:

Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:

  • Previous experience working within a Fabrication role.
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
  • Ability to read drawings and measure parts to the specifications on the print.
  • Knowledge of Co-ordinate measuring machine operation.
  • Detailed product and assembly process knowledge.
  • Effective communication skills to liaise with all levels of the organisation.
  • High level of initiative and self-motivation.
  • Ability to carry out advanced dimensional inspection.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and Standardised Work.

Desired Experience/ Qualifications:

  • Qualifications preferred would be at ONC/HNC or equivalent in a technical subject
  • Working knowledge of Glovia preferred
