Mechanical Lead Engineer

Could you be the full-time Mechanical Engineer in Derby to work across multiple projects including Adessia, HS2, Monorail and other Urban projects.

 

Your future role

 

Take on a new challenge and apply your Mechanical Engineering expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll report to David Shipley (Domain Leader Mechanical Integration/ Cabin / Fitting / Interior) and work alongside dedicated and passionate teammates.

You’ll master and manage the Computer Aid Design (CAD), activities and deliverables on an area within the Mechanical Domain on projects in compliance with QCD commitments. In addition the role will encompass applying applicable Mechanical Domain instructions, processes & tools

We’ll look to you for:

 

  • Performing project Mechanical Domain activities in compliance with QCD commitments.
  • Planning and piloting Mechanical Domain activities and related deliverables on project taking into account applicable instructions/processes and other specific Customer (internal or external) requirements.
  • Ensuring Mechanical Domain deliverables quality and their acceptance by the Customer (internal or external) within committed limits.
  • Reporting on Mechanical Domain activities progress and alerting relevant N+1 in case of issue potentially impacting achievement of QCD commitments.
  • Defining requirements and mechanical interfaces to equipment (Allocated volume, weight, location, etc.).
  • Monitoring assigned Mechanical Sub-Systems deliveries conformity with project needs.
  • Planning and piloting Mechanical Domain activities and related deliverables on project taking into account applicable instructions/processes and other specific Customer (internal or external) requirements.
  • Applying Train Design rules, processes and tools (single-domain) and ensuring Mechanical Domain deliverables quality and their acceptance by the Customer (internal or external) within committed limits.
  • Managing production of deliverables in accordance with planning targets on Mechanical Domain assigned work packages.
  • Designing products taking into account project requirements (performances, manufacturability, serviceability, testability, etc.).
  • Preparing and documenting Mechanical Domain Design Reviews according to project schedule and following-up the main open actions.
  • Checking respect of Allocated volumes/interfaces (no-clashes) on internal design.
  • Resolving Project Mechanical issues and following challenging actions (single-domain)
  • Defining mitigation plans covering a risk identified on Project Mechanical Domain scope.
  • Reporting on Mechanical Domain activities progress, anticipating issues (capacity, skills, rule applicability, etc.) and alerting if needed.
  • Respecting and/or allocating requirements and mechanical interfaces to Sub-Systems/equipments  (Allocated volume, weight, location, etc.)
  • Coordinating Mechanical Domain contributors on Project.
  • Analysing and consolidating change request impacts on Mechanical Domain scope
  • Producing Mechanical Domain deliverables (RSAD L2 (Requirements), Validation Plan, etc.)
  • Validating relevant Mechanical Domain deliverables and securing planning.
  • Verifying design via mock-ups or simulations.
  • Defining mitigation plans covering a risk identified on Project Mechanical (multi-domains)
  • Perform quotation of engineering work package, upon request
  • Defining Project Mechanical Decomposition (Project Breakdown Structure (PBS))
  • Defining Mechanical Project/Product Preferred Part List (3PL) delivery.
  • Supporting Sourcing, Industrialization and Manufacturing teams during Production ramp-up.
  • Collaborating with Domain Lead for continuous improvement of the Domain (including return on experience (RoE))
  • Defining Mechanical Domain architecture taking into account weight, gauge, installation strategy, acoustics, eco design, ergonomics, aerodynamics, aeraulics…
  • Establishing Certification & Validation Plans for Train Design scope.
  • Checking availability on time of work package input data and escalate if necessary.
  • Checking supplier’s and sub-contractor’s Design Quality
