Could you be the full-time GSI Industrial Controller to work on ensuring accuracy of the financial data of the overheads within the Alstom business and support the reporting process for all financial cycles?



Your future role


Take on a new challenge by being based at Derby and apply your financial reporting expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll report to Martin Brooks (Senior Site Controller, RS&S), and work alongside a dedicated and passionate team of finance professionals in Alstom UK&I. The opportunity is a 12 month fixed term contract offering opportunity for career growth.


Working as part of the Finance team, you will support GSI system transition on day to day Overhead Controlling topics and data migration. You will support the reporting process for all financial cycles – actuals, budget and forecasting.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Control and analysis of actuals vs budget/forecast Overhead, Capex, R&D and Tender costs
  • Be a close support for cost centre owners to understand and follow their budget
  • Contribution towards budget and forecasts as and when necessary
  • Accrue or prepay costs (bonus, site costs, fees,…) in SAP to have the most accurate view on a monthly basis
  • Correct figures in SAP where needed or liaise with Global Finance Centres
  • Support operation functionality and reporting, analysis and correction of the time booking system
  • Balance sheet reconciliations for local ERP and (any other UKI SAP company codes where necessary) under the RS umbrella
  • Prepare packs for Teranga reporting purposes; mainly overheads and tender packages
  • Support and contribute to Rolling Stock and UK month-end closure and business review process
  • Support other UK units in day-to-day finance operations.
  • Control (including agreement) of Inter-Company reporting in ICS for accounts payable and receivables
  • To aid with key tasks on the cash cycle: chasing cash from customers, allocation, payment proposal checking, reporting and forecasting
  • Spend on cost centres vs open p/o’s
  • Support key personnel with maintenance of backlog in Inspire
  • Support Reporting and Budgeting Controller with ad-hoc tasks as required
  • Apply the Continuous Improvement approach to improve processes.
  • To comply with and undertake all relevant Environment, Health & Safety measures and activities.

  • ACCA / CIMA/ACA Qualified.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language (written and spoken) with people at different levels.
  • Able to work effectively as a member of a team to co-ordinate and ensure consistency of reporting.
  • Ability to influence and instil confidence in those inside and outside of the finance department.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise in order to be effective
  • Must be able to work autonomously (Self motivated)
  • Ability to use and have previous experience of integrated financial systems.
  • Should be extremely numerate and have an excellent knowledge of accounting and finance.
  • Advance knowledge of MS Excel


Desired Knowledge / Experience

  • Experience of accounting, preferably in a large multinational company.
  • Experience of contract or project accounting.
  • Experience of SAP is an advantage.
  • Ability to motive others.
  • Good presentational skills.
