Cost Controller

Purpose of the job
Supervise and coordinate cost control team in charge of one part of the Project and day to day operations, supporting implementation and guiding the delivery of cost control procedures and processes to ensure compliance and alignment with organizational objectives.


  • Supervise cost control staff and day to day activities, which may include overseeing less experienced staff, develop staff internal capabilities and ensure that staff are adequately resourced to perform.
  • Monitor and execute cost controlling activities and programs and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders of the part of the job under its responsibility to ensure delivery of cost planning operations: Commercial, Production and Finance.
  • Coordinate cost controlling reports to record and inform decision making and to ensure ongoing compliance with reporting requirements set up in Align Jv processes
  • Drive successful financial outcomes to minimise costs and maximise project (area) efficiency above Strike and Target positions whilst maintaining Quality to ensure Align JV is all Bouygues TP, Sir Robert Mc Alpine, VolkerFitzpatrick and HS2 most successful engineering project.
  • Transparent, accurate and timely reporting including Cost to Date, Forecasts, Earned Value and review and be fully involve in R&O position.
  • Prepare and present Monthly Cost Report of the area in charge to stakeholders. Earn value analysis, end of site forecast update, compare with P6 programme.
  • Manage the budget transfer in SAP following the LOA within its area.
  • Prepare budget variance explanations and drive actions to mitigate Risks and maximise Opportunities ensuring that these are accurately assessed and flow into Financial Reporting to support management decisions
  • Drive collaborative behavior with Budget Owners to ensure that Budgets and Forecasts are challenged and create and work to stretch Targets to improve financial outcomes.
  • Delivery of the Milestone Forecasts following optimised stretch budgets of the Area in charge.
  • Ensure embedment of and compliance to the Risk Management Plan (RMP) for the concern area.
  • Co-operate with the Administration, Finance and Cost Planning Department and the wider Project.
  • Support and develop a ‘one team’ JV Culture within the Department and Wider Project.
  • Build the Brand of the Finance and Cost Control department so it is seen as a ‘business partner’ and ‘trusted advisor’ to the wider Project and ‘delivery teams of the area. Ensuring constant communication and building of relationships.

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant qualifications in a related discipline (or equivalent skills and knowledge) combined with fundamental subject matter knowledge and developing people management skills.
  • Knowledge of company policies, practices and personnel in order to effectively carry out responsibilities.
  • Experience in operating office technology such as SAP, MS Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Sound written and verbal communication skills, combined with demonstrated planning and organizing skills with the ability to organize and implement work priorities.
  • Experience in Cost control team using SAP.
