About the role

Balfour Beatty Vinci has an exciting opportunity for a Category Manager to join our team to work across the West Midlands region.

Role Purpose:

  • Establish a framework management team accountable for all indirect categories of spend across the business
  • Lead the development and execution of procurement strategies, with focus on project wide strategic sourcing of both direct and indirect packages
  • Lead and drive the performance of the frameworks team and our selected supply chain partners to deliver the strategic objectives of the project as a whole
  • Lead the integration of an e-Procurement solution (Jaggaer) into the BBV JV to maximise efficiency
  • Establish strong relationships with key stakeholders through a regular, transparent two-way communication and collaborate with supply chain, HS2 and Partner organisations

What you’ll be doing

  • To support the delivery of a best in class Supply Chain Strategy that drives the key priorities of Strategic Alignment (with Balfour Beatty, Vinci, BBV JV and HS2 strategies), Core Operational Excellence (Subcontractor Excellence and Supplier Relationship Management, Supply Chain Development and Performance Measurement), Delivery of Customer Priorities, Feedback, Learning and Continuous Improvement through:
  • Creating procurement strategies that deliver best value for the Integrated Project Team (IPT)
  • Leading and shaping the BBV JV procurement and supply chain management plans and reporting processes
  • Manager the Tender Event Schedule (TES) on behalf of the project
  • Working with the BBV JV Commercial and Finance teams to implement BBV JV procurement process and procedures
  • Liaise with project team to understand project requirements and develop schedules into project procurement plans
  • Development of package specific sourcing plans RFQs, evaluation of supplier responses, negotiations with suppliers, order placement and contract management
  • Identify demand and capacity issues within the supply chain and the development of risk mitigation strategies
  • Analyse performance management information relating to suppliers and implement actions to ensure continuous improvement within the supply chain
  • Ensure our e-procurement solution (Jaggaer) and R12 are utilised to maximum effectiveness across the project and manage any audit requirements

Who we’re looking for

  • The following qualities/experience are essential:
  • An understanding of legal frameworks and contract law
  • Substantial project procurement management experience within a construction related environment
  • Experience of projects with sub-contractors and suppliers
  • Proven track record within strategic sourcing, managing supplier relationships, negotiation, process compliance, leading complex sourcing activities and supplier integration into project teams
  • Excellent strong commercial awareness, a measured approach to drawing conclusions and the ability to ensure best value procurement
  • An ability to adopt a pragmatic, yet disciplined approach to process compliance
