In this role as Carbon Advisor, you will support Balfour Beatty Highways portfolio in the south region and relevant Major Projects – in developing, delivering, assuring, and reporting carbon reductions as a scheme outcome and provide the evidence to show that carbon outcomes are in line with annual business targets, scheme specific targets, and Balfour Beatty Highways Building New Future’s Strategy (Beyond Net Zero Carbon) you will support the Head of Environment and Sustainability in delivering consistency across the BB Highways projects – ensuring efficient services and support to meet operational requirements.

 

What you’ll be doing

 

    •  Day to day point of contact for carbon on projects in the region
    • Deliver carbon management and decarbonisation performance on relevant BB Highways projects;
    • Deliver the BB Highways Carbon Management System on relevant BB Highways projects;
    • Support the annual BB Highways PAS 2080 verification process, including: evidencing; interviews; audits; and contractual agreements; and maintenance of trackers.
    • Report project carbon management performance and progression to the BB Highways Head of Carbon as required (typically monthly);
    • Support with the development and/or delivery of Project/Business carbon dashboards
    • Coordinate carbon forecast updates at key change points for each project;
    • Collaborate with the BB Group Sustainability Team, engaging on topics such as: innovations; policies; technical standards; guidance; best practice etc;
    • Deliver project carbon training programmes;
    • Support embedding carbon management within a range of project functions and processes where applicable, such as procurement, commercial, plant management & logistics;
    • Support project client carbon reporting & deliverables, including Carbon Management; Reports, Carbon Management Plans and Carbon Baselines;
    • Undertake technical assurance of carbon deliverables produced by partners and/or the supply chain
    • Provide support and guidance to relevant project teams.

Who we’re looking for

 

The following qualities/ experience are essential:
    •  A science-based background i.e. relevant BSc or equivalent qualification in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Carbon, Energy or similar;
    • An understanding of carbon impact/mitigation issues on infrastructure;
    • Understanding of carbon reporting standards, guidance and regulatory regimes e.g. PAS 2080;
    • Understanding of issues in integrating low carbon into infrastructure design and construction;
    • Experienced in Office applications and use of analytical tools;
    • Understanding of the benefits of working collaboratively to obtain the best outcome for the project;
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
    • Determination to see tasks through to completion;
    • Member of a relevant professional body is desirable
